OUR CURRICULUM

Our ten-week curriculum (Grades 8th-12th) was developed alongside the National Dance Education Organization utilizing the The National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) and Destiny Arts Center’s Hip Hop Curriculum Model called “The Mixtape.” The NCAS in Dance are designed to enable students to achieve dance literacy. Four artistic processes organize the standards across the arts disciplines: Creating, Performing, Responding, and Connecting.

The Five Components defined by Destiny Arts Center’s “The Mixtape” Hip Hop Curriculum includes the following:

Opening Circle: A ritual to begin each session, Share Artistic Experience: Active teaching and learning that allows teaching artists and students to dynamically engage and experience rich arts techniques, Engage in Creative Process: collaboration and co-creating of work between students and teaching artist, Closing Circle: A Ritual to close each Session, Culminating Performance: A showcase for the students to perform what they learned in front of their peers and/or community.

King Charles, Creative Netwerk Creative Director and International Master Teaching Artist, has developed a curriculum specific to Chicago Footwork foundation and culture. King Charles then worked alongside Chrybaby Cozie, Pioneer of Litefeet and International Master Teaching Artist, to create a curriculum specific to Harlem Litefeet. Creative Netwerk also engages curriculum specific to various street/club styles such as Hip Hop, House, and more. Our team has also developed a collaborative curriculum to support our students learning dance intertwined with subjects such as Nutrition, Well-Being, DJ'ing, and more.

We currently offer programming in Santa Barbara/Ventura County, Chicago, and New York (Los Angeles coming soon!).
